The Formative Play Series · Exploring Tactile Art and Therapy
Isometric polygon colouring, one facet at a time.
Studio Kit 03 is an 11 cm tactile colouring model designed for exploring colour across three-dimensional form. Hold it, turn it and observe how light moves across its clean geometric planes.
Each facet provides a clear place to begin, pause or change direction. Choose a palette, work gradually across the form and discover how colour, contrast and pattern can transform the same model.
▶▶ IN THE BOX
- One matte-white 3D-printed polygon cat
- Approximately 11 cm tall
- One-page quick-start colouring guide
Studio Kit 03 is a standalone colouring model. It does not include a birchwood base or illustrated story cards.
▶▶ WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Acrylic paint markers or fine paintbrushes
- Acrylic paint, if using brushes
- A tray, newspaper or covered working surface
No glue or assembly is required. Bring your own materials, or look out for our marker sets coming soon. Expect a little creative mess.
▶▶ THE IDEA
The isometric, low-poly form divides the surface into clean, clearly bounded planes. This provides enough structure to make starting approachable while leaving every colour and pattern open.
Work on one facet or continue across the entire model. The repeated rhythm of choosing, colouring and turning the form invites close observation and calm, sustained attention.
There is no prescribed palette and no single correct way to finish it.
▶▶ WHAT YOU’LL EXPLORE
As you handle and colour the model, you can explore:
- How adjacent colours affect one another
- How hue, value and contrast define individual planes
- How light and shadow change across angled surfaces
- How repeated patterns move around a three-dimensional object
- How colour can emphasise, soften or disrupt geometric form
- How the same model can produce entirely different outcomes
▶▶ FOR EDUCATORS
Studio Kit 03 offers an approachable way to connect tactile exploration, colour theory and three-dimensional visual thinking. Educators can use the model to introduce:
- Colour relationships, contrast and value
- Plane, edge, form and volume
- Light and shadow
- Pattern, repetition and visual rhythm
- Palette development
- Three-dimensional observation
- Experimentation and artistic decision-making
Allow approximately 45–60 minutes for an introductory colour study. Completing the full model may require a longer session or a series of shorter sessions.
Recommended for makers aged seven and above. Adult guidance is advised when learners use acrylic markers or paint.
