Studio Kit 01

Three trees, a fallen log and a jar of honey.

Studio Kit 01 is a tactile 3D polygon colouring kit for exploring colour, form and composition. Its matte-white pieces can be held, turned and arranged before being coloured and assembled on a layered birchwood base.

The clearly defined facets provide an approachable framework while leaving every palette, pattern and final arrangement open. Build a small landscape, change it, look again and make it your own.

Please note: Photographs show a finished example. Your kit arrives in matte white, ready for you to colour.

Materials Required

  • A tray, newspaper or covered working surface

Bring your own paint markers, or look out for our marker sets coming soon. Expect a little creative mess.

▶▶ THE POSSIBILITIES

What Will Your Landscape Become?

A jar of honey rests at the edge of a small forest. Whose jar is it? Who left it there, and why? Where you place each tree, how you angle the fallen log and the colours you choose can change the whole mood of the scene.

The illustrated cards offer possible beginnings, not fixed answers. Every maker creates a different composition and a different story.

▶▶ WHAT YOU’LL EXPLORE

Colour, Form and Composition

As you handle, arrange and colour the pieces, you can explore:

  • How adjacent colours interact across polygon surfaces
  • How light and shadow change across angled planes
  • How placement, scale and negative space shape a composition
  • How the elements of a scene relate to one another
  • How colour and pattern can transform the same form

There is no prescribed palette and no single correct outcome.

▶▶ FOR EDUCATORS

For Art Classes and Studios

Studio Kit 01 offers an approachable way to connect tactile exploration with visual art, spatial composition and storytelling. Educators can use the kit to introduce:

  • Colour relationships, contrast and value
  • Plane, edge, form and volume
  • Figure and ground
  • Scale and spatial relationships
  • Positive and negative space
  • Composition and visual narrative
  • Experimentation and artistic decision-making

Allow approximately 45–60 minutes for initial exploration and assembly. Learners may need additional time to develop and complete their colouring.

Recommended for makers aged seven and above. Adult guidance is advised when learners use glue and acrylic paint markers.
